Every woman carries with her certain treasures that time can never erase.
An old piece of jewellery — perhaps ancestral, perhaps gifted by someone deeply loved — holds memories far beyond its material worth. It could be Amma’s marriage jewel, a bangle once worn daily, or a necklace that quietly carries stories of love, loss, and legacy. These heirlooms are not merely ornaments; they are emotions passed down through generations.
Equally sacred in a Tamil household is kolam — an inherited practice drawn at dawn, learned by watching elder women in the family. Kolam is memory in motion. It is art, discipline, devotion, and rhythm — all flowing through fingertips onto the threshold of a home. For Tamil women, kolam is not decoration alone; it is identity.
These two — cherished jewellery and kolam — remain constant loves across generations of Tamil women. They are instinctive, emotional, and deeply personal. This timeless connection sparked a thought in the mind of our founder Bangaru Priya ma’am and was carefully shaped by our design team: “What if these two beloved traditions could come together — not as nostalgia, but as something wearable?”
From this imagination emerged two Azhagi Chettinad Cotton Anarkalis from Arnika – Anarkali by Ival. Each piece is inspired by the delicate interplay between jewellery motifs and kolam patterns, translated thoughtfully into textile form. The designs echo the geometry, symmetry, and sacred elegance found in kolams, while carrying the quiet grandeur of heirloom jewellery.
Crafted in traditional Chettinad cotton and woven by skilled weavers of Karaikudi, these Anarkalis are rooted deeply in place, people, and process. The fabric breathes heritage; the motifs speak memory. Together, they transform clothing into wearable art — something that feels familiar, yet profoundly new.
This collection is not about fashion trends. It is a tribute.
A tribute to Tamil women, to their rituals, their inheritances, and their quiet strength.
A tribute to traditions that live on — not locked in cupboards or drawn only at doorsteps, but carried forward with pride.
Through Azhagi, our vision is clear: to honour Tamil roots authentically and share their beauty with a global audience — gently, respectfully, and truthfully. This legacy is carried forward by all brands under IvalinMabia.
Because some traditions deserve not just to be remembered, but to be worn.
